Hailey E. Herrera
Hailey E. Herrera is a watermedia artist, working in watercolor, watercolor batik, ink, and acrylic. Growing up in South Korea, she has painted on and off since she was seven. She moved to the united states in 1996 for graduate studies and recived her PhD at Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2004. She worked as a research scientist and lecturer for a short period before taking community art classes and then painting watercolor in earnest. She has developed a palette that is vibrant, bright, and rich with incredible depth and wonderful ranges. She is a co-author of the book,
The Art of Painting Sea Life in Watercolor by Walter Foster Publishing. As evidenced in the book, her paintings reflect her love for the colors and proficient ability to control water.
Hailey primarily works in watercolor, but her watercolor paintings are often incorporated with many other media- acrylic, ink, gouache, pastel, and wax. Some of her paintings are painted on traditional papers, others on rice papers using batik techniques. She also likes to experiment on different surfaces and textures. She is not content with a style, but wants to evolve continually. She loves to enrich her creativity and artistic vision through constant experiment. She will continue expanding her repertoire and stretch her boundaries as her creativity demands.
